Donata Chari and Rainer Trendelenburg met on stage for the first time at a „New Constellation Kitchen“ session of the Freiburg Blues Association e.V. in the historic vaulted cellar of the Hotel Schiff in Freiburg.
The idea of a new BlueFunk CD was already in the air and with Donata, an exceptional lyricist and singer was now on board. Just a few days later, pre-production began in the Lemontree Studio in Freiburg.
From the very beginning, it was clear that the CD would only contain first releases and would be a journey through the musical world with bluesy, jazzy and funky influences.
For the first time ever, Tino Gonzales composed and wrote lyrics for third parties. This is how Donata created the three songs „Take me away“, „Just like me“ and „Not again“ in the typical style and groove of the exceptional guitarist from Chicago.
„Dear Son“, „Dear Mama“, „Deception“ and „Artemide“ were written by Freiburg jazz guitarist Bertold Klein. Donata created the melody lines and lyrics for these.
Rainer Trendelenburg composed „Just love again“, „When I Was reborn“ and „You make me feel so high“, and here too the melody lines and lyrics were written by Donata.
Great importance was attached to ensuring that all arrangements could be performed live on stage. Special effects, MIDI arrangements and overly complex compositions were deliberately avoided. The focus of the production is the fantastic voice of Donata Chiari.
The recordings were made in the ranomized studio in Freiburg. The aim was „as analogue as possible“, although the final recording was digital. In addition to the drums and guitar amps, the grand piano, the Fender Rhodes (via a Roland jazz chorus), saxophone, violin and of course the vocals were carefully recorded with high-quality microphones. Only analogue equipment was used for the downmix. The results were so convincing that it was decided during production to also release a small edition on vinyl.
