This is not how the renowned Chicago blues guitarist Tino Gonzales originally imagined his role as producer of this CD: only his own songs, hardly any blues and all in German.

A good project always starts with a good meal. After a few courses and a few bottles of red wine, I told him about my plans for another CD. Tino didn’t yet know what he was getting himself into and spontaneously took on the role of producer.

During pre-production it quickly became clear that a sequence of classic 12-bar pieces in the old blues tradition was out of the question. There were enough ideas to take things much further. But Tino’s facial muscles slackened when I surprised him with my idea of ​​German lyrics. After a short period of adjustment, he quickly got used to it.

First Drums and bass were recorded in the Sonnendeck Studio in Freiburg. Then the production went on a virtual journey, from Austria via Jena, Berlin, Ludwigshafen, an idyllic Black Forest valley at an altitude of 1,000 meters back to my Lemontree Studio in Freiburg.

The production consumed 127 bottles of red wine, 46 bottles of white wine, 59 bottles of beer and countless liters of coffee and water. In total we sat at the dining table for three weeks. Specialties from Baden, France, Switzerland, Asia, the USA and Mexico were on the menu. Pounds of chili and olive oil found their way into the cooking pot and onto the plates. An accompanying cookbook could easily have been created.
